You could accompish this with the DCL dialog programming language and
Autolisp but it isn't all that easy. Another option would be to
purchase a third party package that provides this feature.

Kinda wierd that a product that costs as much as AutoCAD would not
provide something like this out of the box.

I had a similar problem with my HPIIp. I purchased a poltter
emulation cartridge from Pacific Data Products that works great.

This is an old, old solution and there may be far better ones for you,
but at least it works.

Oh, yeah ... you have to tell AutoCAD to print to a file then in the
configuration set the default plot file name to LPT1 or 2 if you have
2 parallel ports and the printer is on port 2.

You might try just configuring for an HP7474a plotter and directing a
plot file to LPT1. Wouldn't hurt anything to try, anyway.
