Word wrap on clear signed messages from PGP 8.0 using plug-in

Posting to news groups I've noticed that my postings gets a bad
signature when they come back or are read from the news server. I use
PGP 8.0 Personal with Outlook 2000 for Mail and Outlook Express for
news. And please don't tell me to switch mail/newsprograms. I like what
I've got.

What I've noticed is that is seems that a clear signed message doesn't
get wrapped before signature is applied when it's handled by the
plug-in. If I do a clear signing of current window the text wraps. This
must be some kind of bug and it's very irritating since I bought PGP 8.0
because of it's tight integration to my programs using plug-ins. I
really hope this problem will be adressed in the next 8.x-release.

Hmmm.. sure enough, your message failed.  I can hardly wait to read
this reply to you to see if I have the same trouble.

Word wrap on clear signed messages from PGP 8.0 using plug-in

I installed the Outlook plug-in (for email) and discovered I needed the
Outlook Express plug-in for news. In other words, I think I'm using Outlook
for email and newsreading, but I'm actually using Outlook Express for
newsgroups.  I double clicked your message to open it in its own window,
then clicked Reply Group to open the window I'm typing in right now.  I see
a group of three icons on the right end of the (Send Cut Copy Paste Undo
CkeckNames...) toolbar listed as Encrypt Message (PGP), Sign Message (PGP)
and PGP Keys. On the Tools menu, I have checked "Digitally sign using PGP."
The "Sign Message (PGP)" icon is selected.  I do not use the "Current
window" option from PGPtray.

Word wrap on clear signed messages from PGP 8.0 using plug-in

I'll try and edit this so my reply makes more sense:

I also use Outlook Express (OE) for newsgroups, and, like Arild's
original post, I am not going to change clients.  It is touchy with
the plugins.  These are the settings which I use:

0.    use comp.security.pgp.test to try out your settings.

1.    turn OFF "always check spelling before sending.  OE's
spellchecker will change the word-wrap after PGP has set it, even if
OE's spellchecker doesn't change anything.  I will spell check
manually *before* I generate the signature.

2.    set OE word wrap at 76 (which was the default)
3.    set PGP word wrap at 70 (which was the default)

When I use the plug in:  signature verify will often fail.  It is
almost always a word wrap problem, where it seems that OE re-wraps to
76 characters--perhaps PGP is not inserting a hard return, but more
likely OE just doesn't do well.  I don't know.

When I use current window hotkey:  signature verify will seldom fail.

When I use clipboard:  signature will never fail.  (never say never)

So... I use the clipboard for most of my signatures.

Richard

Thanks for your advice. All these settings was set on my system.

What I do notice when I sign a message is that the plug-in doesn't do
line wrapping at all. The message gets wrapped with OE wrap after
clear signing causing the signature to break when it is sendt out
from Outlook Express. The broken, signed message can be found in the
Outbox of OE.

I have similar experiences with the Outlook plug-in when posting to
mail lists like PGP-Basics at Yahoo.
