Visual Studio .NET 2003 Final Beta is Here
Visual Studio .NET 2003, currently in Final Beta, includes a complete range of capabilities from modelers that aid in visually
composing the most complex of enterprise-class applications to deploying an application to the smallest of devices. Also, Visual
Studio .NET 2003 contains an updated version of the .NET Framework. With the addition of the ASP.NET mobile controls and the .NET
Compact Framework, the .NET Framework 1.1 provides a unified programming model for building browser and smart-client applications
for mobile devices as well as for servers and PCs.

Too bad users of Visual Studio.NET 1.0 cannot use .Dotnet Framwork 1.1
without having to buy another version of Visual Studio.NET.  Instead of a
service pack upgrade, it's going to require another purchase to get bug
fixes and added features, that the framework offers.

I heard that the update to everett from 2002 will be around $29 at a
Microsoft Event, so non-subscribers should get it soon for a good price.

Cheers,

It is not so bad, my understanding is that the upgrade will be
at a "nominal" price, plus I was told that the bug-fix elements
would be available for free.

By the time VS .NET 2003 is released (Q1 at best guess),  VS .NET v1.0 (or
VS .NET 2002 as it has become known) will be more than 12 months old. You
can't blame Microsoft if you're a late adopter :)

Quote:> But can you install Visual Studio.NET 1.0 and 1.1 side-by-side?

Yes, Visual Studio .NET 2002 and Visual Studio .NET 2003
can be installed side-by-side :

FAQ for VB.NET, valid for the full VS.NET 2003:
  http://msdn.microsoft.com/vbasic/productinfo/vbasic03/faq/default.asp

Visual C# FAQ:
  http://msdn.microsoft.com/vcsharp/productinfo/vcsharp03/faq/default.asp

On a new system, it is better to install VS.NET 2002 first.

Note, by installing VS.NET 2003, the files
  (.cs/.vb source & projects, .sln solution, ...)
will be associated with the new VS.
Thus, double-clicking them in explorer will start VS.NET 2003.

IMPORTANT, from readme:
The formats of the solution and project files in Visual Studio .NET 2003
are different from the corresponding formats in Visual Studio .NET 2002.
The Visual Studio .NET 2003 formats are not backwards compatible.
When you first open a previous version's solution or project file
in Visual Studio .NET 2003, you are prompted to convert.
After conversion, you cannot open the files in the previous version of Visual Studio.
For additional details, see the help topic available from the Conversion dialog box

I can't see it under Developer Tools. There is only Visual Studio .NET
version from January and some old stuff. Isn't it available for Professional
Subscribers?
