Pricing of Tandy 1000 SX system

Post by Stephen Bendzic » Thu, 24 Oct 1996 04:00:00

I'm considering buying a used Tandy 1000 SX system.  (That has an 8088
processor.)  Can someone tell me what would be a fair price?  (i.e.,
what are these things going for these days?)  I would be interested in
estimates for the whole system or for individual pieces of hardware.
(CPU, monitor, etc.)

The system includes:
* Tandy 1000 SX CPU unit (in good condition) with 640K RAM (expanded
from original 384K) with everything it originally came with:
      2 5.25" 360K floppy drives
      83-key keyboard
(Shielded cable for connecting parrallel port to Tandy printer.)
    Built-in on main board:
Intel 8088 processor (In case you didn't know.)
      Tandy graphics and 3-voice sound
2 built in (6-pin DIN) joystick ports
      Card-edge parallel port
      5 (empty) ISA expansion slots.
(also light pen port, composite video and line audio out)
* Original software: TANDY 1000-specific MS-DOS 3.2 (with GW-BASIC)
and Deskmate (I believe it's DeskMate II?)
* Tandy CM-5 RGBI monitor (16 colors, just like the Tandy graphics)
* Tandy DMP-130 printer (There is some play in platen, but the problem
can be worked around easily, doesn't affect the tractor, (so
only     is a problem for single sheets) and the output quality is
still     good (uniform line spacing).)
* All original manuals (for each piece of hardware).

Thanks a lot in advance.

Steve

I wouldn't pay more than $200 or so. That is a dinosaur. Old Tandys are
reliable so shouldn't cause you any grief but VERY little you can
do with an 8088, TGA graphics and 2 big floppies. The printer is
the best part of the package.

I'll say they're reliable!  My 10yr old one serviced me every day until
I started writing a book.  One w/ color pictures!  After 10 yrs. I
finally had to shell out for a new computer.  !! Does anyone know how to
connect a 1000SX to a Pentium Packard Bell with a null cable?  It's
tough writing my book with the first half stuck in my 1000!!

P.S.
If you ever have a problem with it, the first thing you do is take
an air hose and blow the dust out of it.  Then unplug the drive cables,
blow them out, and reseat them firmly in place. 9 times out of 10 this
will fix your lost disk drives and aborted startups!

e-mail it to yourself from the 1000sx, then grab it on the pentium :)

1. FS: Tandy 1000 SX system

I have a Tandy 1000 SX with monitor,
keyboard, and all of the original manuals and disks.
It's in immaculate condition and works perfectly.
Comes with MS Dos 3.2, Deskmate II,  Webster's
NewWorld Writer, and HomeTaxPlus software.
I'm not sure what it's worth or if anyone is even
collecting these, although it's fun to fiddle around with
and write BASIC programs using the old line numbering
system :) Could be used by someone as an
inexpensive word processor. How about $100?
