and Instructor Positions

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University
of
Calgary seeks applications for tenure-track faculty appointments at the
Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level in the general areas of
computer
engineering, software engineering, and electrical engineering.  The
Department is particularly interested in qualified applicants with a
demonstrated background in computer architecture, operating systems,
software architectures, processes, reuse, metrics, reliability, quality,

empirical software methods, embedded systems, distributed systems,
microelectronics, instrumentation, communications, signal processing,
controls, electromagnetics, wireless communications, rf design,
electronics,
system engineering, biomedical and bioelectrics.

The Department wishes to fill two positions, effective July 1, 1999: (1)
a
tenure track assistant professor position in microelectronics, and (2) a

four-year limited term assistant professor position in controls.  The
Department wishes to fill six* more positions at the
assistant/associate/full professors and to instructor levels to support
a
major expansion subject to funding effective September 1, 1999.
Candidates
should have a Ph.D. in computer engineering, software engineering or
electrical engineering.  The successful candidates must have excellent
academic credentials and an ability to develop a strong independent
research
program, and to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate
levels.
Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department offers degrees at the Bachelor, Masters and Doct*
levels
in Electrical Engineering, and an MSc in Electrical Engineering with a
specialization in Software Engineering. Degree programs will soon be
introduced in Computer Engineering and Software Engineering, subject to

Science, University  of Twente, the Netherlands,  has an opening for an

                     Assistant Professor

Tasks:
The candidate will perform the usual mix of research, teaching and
management duties. Particular importance is given to the further
extension of the multidisciplinary nature of the research of the

Chair of Information Systems:
The Chair of Information Systems (http://wwwis.cs.utwente.nl:8080/MAICS/)
gives courses and performs research in the area of information
systems. The group participates or leads projects in the area of
workflow systems, groupware and product information systems. Research
is interdisciplinary and uses results from formal specification as
well as social science to specify requirements and high-level
architectures for these systems. Together with our industrial
partners, we develop advanced prototypes of future information
technology applications. Together with the Chair of Management
Information Systems of the Department of Management Science, the Chair
of Information Systems is responsible for the curriculum in Business
Information Technology, an interdisciplinary program that combines
elements of computer science with elements of management science. The
Chair of Information Systems currently has five permanent staff and
four temporary staff.

Department of Computer Science:
The Department of Computer Science (http://www.cs.utwente.nl) of the
University of Twente (http://www.utwente.nl), the Netherlands, is
responsible for academic programs in Technical Informatics, Business
Information Technology, and Telematics. In addition, the Department
contributes courses in computer science to other programs. The
research of the Department is part of the  multidisciplinary research
institute ``Centre for Telematics and Information  Technology''
(CTIT). The Department has about 180 staff and 750 students.
