Human Factors / HCI / GUI Magazines?

Post by Johan van Ketwic » Thu, 23 Nov 1995 04:00:00

Hello

I'm looking for some interesting and useful magazines regarding user
interfaces and the development of such. Are there any? Does anyone of you
have any hints or recommendations? All areas are of interest.

If you're a member of the HFES, you get "Ergonomics in Design,"
which falls into the magazine (as opposed to journal) category.
I think you can still pay for a subscription even if you're not
a member ... if you need the address, feel free to send me some
e-mail (I can't remember it exactly off hand).

Regards,
Yean Wei.

You may want to take a look at The X Journal.

Also, ACM has its SIGCHI branch which puts out a magazine.

1. Human Factors Vs. Human Factors

The title may be strange when you read it , but it could draw to you the first
impression of how Human can creat a solutions where at the same time can creat
problems. Simply , some times we think we are solving problems , but we do not
think about the affect of the solutions in the long run.

For example, Groups in organisations should be collaborativelly working togathe
r , so we provide the best information system package , and doing traning to
the individuals. Meanwhile , we are creating problems such as forcing people to
accept things that are not used to,also making the people stuck with the techno
logy so it is going to be the way they think or behave. People wont do it natur
ally anymore. " system is controling their actions and their ideas" and not the
vise versa.

I 'll continue on this subject in the future series I am going to write.
I would appreciate any comments or ideas about it .

Thanks,
N. M. Elshaer.
