Human Factors for Control Systems

Human Factors for Control Systems

Post by Ken Courtne » Fri, 16 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I am interested in contacting people regarding the development
of graphic display formats for interactive control systems.
I work in the nuclear power field, but there are overlaps with other
fields.  I am aware of the Halden group, but I am looking for
other groups in the U.S.

The Ohio State University Institute for Ergonomics has done a lot of
research in this area.

My favorite is the book by J. Rasmussen "information processes and
human-machine interaction", 1986. It is a bit old, but it's a classic.
He co-authored a new book, which I think published in 1998.

Yea, sorry about the Web site. Another person called Niall Murphy,
with a slightly different user name wrote to IOL to cancel his
account. They cancelled mine instead. I am just about back online, but
the web site probably will not be there until tomorrow, Wedensday.

In the meanwhile, you should be able to get at that article at
http://www.embedded.com/98/9808fe.htm
        sorry,
                Niall

1. human factors difficulties in the FAA STARS air traffic control system

The new STARS air traffic control system developed by Raytheon for the
United States Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) seems to have some
usability problems. I have prepared a web page with pointers to news
articles about the project and to some of the usability studies that
have been done. It is at:
