can anybody point me to documentation on how to compile the Echo
object example from the OmniORB docs?
I can't seem to compile the example with the limited information
given. A makefile would be nice.
I compiled and ran them on Win2K and Linux/390 last week using OmniORB
4.0.1, there's no challenge, just follow the instructions. For Unix
platforms it's README.unix, for Windows platforms it's README.win32, both in
the OmniORB root directory.
All the necessary makefiles are in the distribution. I think OmniORB is
very well documented, just start with "README.FIRST" and you'll be set.

I'm running a Linux system with the following configuration:
Linux C Lib 5.3.12
GNU C++ Lib 220.127.116.11
I downloaded and unpacked the Linux distribution of OmniORB, however
when I try to compile the echo example I get the following errors:
gcc -c -fhandle-exceptions -Wall -Wno-unused -I. -D__OMNIORB2__
-I../../../include -D_REENTRANT -D__linux__ -D__i86__ -D__OSVERSION__=2
-o echoSK.o echoSK.cc

../../../include/omnithread.h:206: syntax error before `;'

make: *** [echoSK.o] Error 1
The lines that cause the errors are:
line 159 of the omnithread.h file
line 206 :
The lines seem to be related :) however, I cannot say I understand the
omnithread.h file too well. Does this give anybody some ideas on what
part I might be missing? maybe an environment variable the tells the
any help would be greatly appreciated.
