Naming Service of Orbix2000

Naming Service of Orbix2000

Post by Jeff Wa » Sat, 16 Feb 2002 00:29:23

I read some posts on this group , as well as from IONA homepage,
that the port of Naming Service is assigned differently every
time it starts, for Orbix3.0/2000. However, a post claims:

"Typically, the Orbix 2000 Naming Service is launched on the
same port every time.  This port number is the same as the
Orbix 2000 Locator's port number."

Please give your comment! And how to check for the port number,
and set up to a well know port from command line?

Another question is for the object key of the naming service,
can anyone help to figure out the port (1570?) and key of it?
I do appreciate it!

Naming Service of Orbix2000

To check the port number or object key of your ior you can use a utility iordump.
This comes wiht both Orbix 3.x and Orbix 2000.

By default both the Orbix 3 and Orbix 2000 Naming Service will have an indirect port
number in thier ior.

That is for orbix3 the Naming Service will have the IT_daemon port number in ior
(1570)
This does not mean that the NS is listening on this port. Th IT_daemon will know the
actual port number that NS is listening on and inform the client of this.

Similary for the Orbix2000 NS, will have the locators port (3075) in IOR.
The locator knows the actual location of all persisent poa and will inform
the client.

Orbix 2000 NS can be configured to use direct persistence

1. urgent help required on Naming Service in orbix2000

hi,

I am trying to port an application from orbix2.3 to orbix2000.
We decided to use the naming service.
Previously i used to specify the host name on which the server was running.

Do i need to do that when i am using naming service?
if not then how will a client running know on which host the server is
running?
what kind of things do i have to enable to ensure that the client and host
can run on different hosts?

regards
mihir
