error while starting corba services

Post by Karo » Fri, 04 Jul 2003 02:30:57

Hi,

I have installed the IONA E2A ASP 6.0, but I am not able to
start any services, i.e:

root > ./itadmin
Wed, 02 Jul 2003 19:14:49.0000000 [wasun11msi:11947] (IT_CORE:200) E -
could not resolve initial reference for IT_CodeSet_Registry: not
registered or configured
ORB_init() failed: Unknown exception
root >
root > ./itlocator
Wed, 02 Jul 2003 19:21:29.0000000 [wasun11msi:11948] (IT_CORE:200) E -
could not resolve initial reference for IT_CodeSet_Registry: not
registered or configured
Abort - core dumped
root >

The same error message appears when I am trying to init the ORB from
the code, i.e. resolve_initial_reference.

The information points to IT_CodeSet_Registry. I found the settings in
core.xml file and they are following:

        <configData>
            <dataId>initial_references:IT_CodeSet_Registry</dataId>
            <dataType>string</dataType>
            <dataValue>it_codeset</dataValue>
        </configData>

Did you face such a problem. Thanks for your help,

Karol

Hi Karol,

After installation is complete, you need to deploy an ASP domain with
the itconfigure tool. See
http://www.iona.com/support/docs/e2a/asp/6.0/platform/admin/index.html
Part 1/Chapter 3.

itconfigure will generate start_<domain>_services and
stop_<domain>_services scripts for the services you selected for your
domain.

Your code needs to run in the context of a domain as well, you need to
source <domain>_env script for that.

Sergey Yedrikov.

error while starting corba services

Post by Karo » Fri, 04 Jul 2003 19:21:08

Hi Sergey,

I did it like you suggested. Now I can start all services using the
start_<domain>_services. It works fine.
The problem still exists is I am not able to start applications, i.e:

03 Jul 2003 11:50:26.0000000 [wasun08msi:802] (IT_CORE:200) E - could
not resolve initial reference for IT_CodeSet_Registry: not registered
or configured
CORBA exception: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/ORB/InvalidName:1.0

The above exception is thrown by the line global_orb =
CORBA::ORB_init(argc, argv, "iacc_client").

Thank you,

Karol

error while starting corba services

Post by Karo » Fri, 04 Jul 2003 22:55:45

Hi Sergey,

I have fixed the problem. I found that settings are not set after
executing <domain-name>_env script. The reason was very very simple:

./<domain-name>_env (does not work)
. ./<domain-name>_env (works fine)

Thanks, Karol

Did you source the domain environment script before running
your application? That looks like the problem.

The most likely reason why your start_<domain>_services script did
not exhibit this error is because it sources the environment in its
own shell prior to launching the services. However, these
environment settings did not propagate out to the parent shell.

Hope this helps,

Brian
