vi for dos: what is the equivalent of .exrc or EXINIT in dos.

I am quite familiar with the vi editor in unix. But i also have
a dos version of vi. But how do customize it in dos?  Does it
use any init file like .exrc in unix or EXINIT?

It would help if you mentioned which DOS-based vi clone you were
using; there are quite a few of them  (if you don't know which it is,
try using the :version command within the editor).  EXINIT works in
most of the ones I've seen, although putting multiple commands there
can be a bit problematic since DOS itself doesn't come with any
utility capable of putting a '|' character in a environment variable.
They seem to vary as to what (if any) startup file is used or where
it's found (DOS has no concept of a home directory, of course),
although at least some will make use of a _exrc file (.exrc is not a
valid DOS filename) if you can figure out where to put it.

1. different .exrc files for vi and EXINIT

I want to be able to use different initial files (.exrc) when
executing vi.

Details:  Two different users become superuser via 'su' (not login).
So the environment is inherited (e.g. the USER variable).  When
vi is envoked (by the superuser) I want to have different
initialisation depending on the original username.

Questions:
1 Can I chose an .exrc file when starting vi?

2 How is one supposed to use the EXINIT variable?

3 How would you solve this problem?

Thanks.
