1. EXECUTE in PROC SQL (Sybase on Solaris)

A colleague has the following code, which executes as expected in v6.12
(Hello World! prints to the log), but in v8.2, the EXECUTE statement seems
to be ignored.  There is no message in the log saying that it is an error.
Is there a bug here?

proc sql;

CONNECT TO SYBASE AS mydb (
                           SERVER    = &SERVER
                                 DATABASE  = &DATABASE
                           USER      = &USERID
                                 PASSWORD  = &PASSWORD
                           INTERFACE  = &INTRFACE
                                 );

execute ( print "Hello World!") by mydb;

quit;
