Ampro LittleBoard support

Ampro LittleBoard support

Didn't see this one mentioned in the TCJ web pages (may have missed
it, though).  On my list of new years' resolutions is to resurrect
my lightning-fried Ampro LB+.  I'm keen to know what sort of support
there is out there for the LB these days.  I'd heard rumblings that
someone at some time had written a massively-tweaked z80-coded BIOS.
I'm interested in that, as well as sources for small SCSI drives (20
to 40mb or so) and Z80H level parts for the 8MHz mod (none of my
local suppliers carry anything faster than -A :-( ).

Check the TCJ Support Groups listing for Hal Bowers who has written the BP
Bios.  Don Maslin may have or know where to get some Z-System upgrades for
the ALB.  And JDR (URL on the TCJ Resources page) has 8MHz Z80 parts
listed in their paper catalog.  The local (Sacramento) junk, I mean
surplus, store sold out of 49 MB SCSI's but has some 210 MB SCSI's for
$60.

Absolutely!

I'm afraid that I do not have any insight into Z-System upgrades for
the LB.  Fact is, when I saw the original post I was tempted to add a
note to it suggesting that anything with Z-80 demon tweaks was not an
Ampro product, as Rick Lehrbaum - then Chief Engineer - had a policy
that ALL Ampro LB/LB+ code could be assembled with ASM.

Possibly, Jay Sage may have some insight into such a thing.  How 'bout
it, Jay?

Ampro LittleBoard support

Post by Allison Pare » Tue, 26 Dec 1995 04:00:00

I've been looking for Ampro LIttle board support as well having a
functioning one.  Things like sources for the hard disk bios would be
useful since I'm trying to configure it for what is an unsupported
drive.    I'd love to get the SCSI interface to work with a Quantum
Prodrive 105S (100mb).  I also wish to use MOUNT with it so I don't
have to have every partition active to preserve the TPA space.

Anyone that has worked on that may have bit that will be helpful.

Issue #41 of The Computer Journal has an article from someone who rewrote
part of the ALB bios so that he could use hard drives greater than 88 MB
on the ALB.  The article includes a description and a few tables but no
source code.  It was written by Terry Pinto.  The program is called
HDS.COM for Hard Drive Select.

1. Ampro Littleboard support

Last time I was in Halted, in Sunnyvale, (mid-November) they had a whole
box of what looked like brand new SCSI drives (Seagate...about 40 Mb)
for about $30.00 bux each.  I think that I got that right.....Halted is
near the intersection of Lawrence and Central, right?  And Haltek is over
by Moffett??  I think that's right.

JDR (in San Jose/Campbell) has Z80-B (6 MHz), Z80-C (8 MHz), and Z80-H?
(10 MHz) parts available.  Give them a try at 800/538-5000 (FAX 800/538-
5005).
