Help -- Hit Counter Image Still Not Appearing

Post by Elmo » Sat, 14 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Question:  Does anyone know what file should contain the built-in FP98 .gif
images associated with  the executable active elements/webbot (e.g., hit
counter).  The executable file launches correctly and is housed as:
/_vti_bin/fpcount.exe

For some reason when the instructions to insert a Hit Counter:
1)  Insert; 2) Active Elements; 3) Hit Counter are followed, the following
path is automatically inserted ... Path seen when properties is selected on
red "x" image viewed in I.E.:
file:///C:/WEBSHARE/WWWROOT/Network-01/_vti_bin/fpcount.exe/Network-

Possible Problems:  1) Incorrect path  -- unable to get to path; invisible
in HTML view.  How to change webbot path?; 2) Exe File -- Works fine and
displays hotbot options, but no .gif image appears in I.E. ; [Hit Counter]
displays in FP98.  What library are associated webbot/active page elements
.gif files stored?  Maybe my .gif files are missing.

Getting somewhat frustrated ... Thank you!!

Elmo,

Are you running a PWS, launching FPEditor from with in FPExplorer?
Will you be publishing to a server with the extensions?

Help -- Hit Counter Image Still Not Appearing

Thomas --
What is a PWS?
Yes, I hope to publish to a server with the extensions.   I hope that means
a fully loaded copy of FP98 on our college web server ... correct?  Nothing
extra needed is there? (tsk tsk -- I'm such a novice)

I am launching FP editor from my C drive (that's where FP98 loaded).  I then
examine webpage changes in IE ... specifying the C drive path for the
default and following the hyperlinks.  Checking the image properties for the
red "x" hit counter results in the following path:

Quote:>file:///C:/WEBSHARE/WWWROOT/Network-01/_vti_bin/fpcount.exe/Network-

The path appears correct up until the ".exe/Network-"  where it looks like
either somethings missing or it's pathing incorrectly.

Have tried just about everything and cannot figure this one out.   Do you
know where the corresponding .gif files are housed that the fpcount.exe
needs to correctly display the hit counter or does it build the .gif files
on the fly?  Hmm...

Thank you!!

Hi Elmo,

1. On your local PC, you need a Personal Web Server (PWS) installed and running.

2. Then you would create your web in FPExplorer and launch FPEditor from within FPExplorer.

3. Import all images into FPExplorer prior to inserting them into your page open in FPEditor.
