Display picture - need to load a picture using address from access data file

Post by William Garret » Thu, 23 Sep 1999 04:00:00

I want to load the specific picture of an item. My site has several queries
that the use can use to narrow down to one item. When he clicks in the
database results region of the next to last query he is taken to a page that
gets a price from an access data base. I have pictures of all the items and
want to display a thumbnail of the image so the user can click on it to see
a larger picture. I will probably use a separate window to display the
image. The problem is I can't figure out how to load the image of the item
the customer has chosen. I have searched all my books as well as online and
haven't found anything on this. Is it possible? If you want to look at my
test site it's located at http://xparts.webhostme.com/ Just leave the first
box empty and it should take you to the next page and you can hyperlink from
there. Any input would be appreciated.

What you need to do is actually embed the html to reference the location of
your image within your query so that when the asp loads, it will insert the
image location into the field in the query.

The code would look somthing like this:

image: "<img SRC= ' "  & tblimages![imagepath] & " 'BORDER='0' NAME='one'
width='200' height='20>' "

"tblimages![imagepath]" represents a field name containing your image path.

Additional spaces are inserted between ' and " so that you can tell them
apart, they wouldn't be there in the actual string.

Hope it helps.

1. Using ASP to Display Pictures in an ACCESS Database

I've used the FrontPage "Database Region Wizard" to add content to an ASP
generated Web page based upon data contained in an MS Access database.
Pretty straight forward and works quite well. Where I have a problem is with
trying to display pictures stored in the database. The pictures are in
either .jpg or .gif format and are stored in an OLE field in the database.
The wizard doesn't seem to know how to handle displaying data of this type.

Has anyone had any luck getting this to work? I'm not adverse to writing the
code myself if the wizard won't handle it, but I haven't been able to find
any information on retrieving and displaying pictures stored in an Access
database. Has  anyone ever had any luck getting this to work and if so would
you mind pointing me in the right direction?  Thanks.
