DHTML Slideshow - limited to only 4 images?

Post by Jn. » Sat, 14 Sep 2002 12:34:44

I've been trying to set up the slideshow featured on the following webpage:

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex14/preloadslide.htm

It's a pre-loading slideshow. I've been trying all day with no luck- if I
set it up EXACTLY like they say in the tutorial, I get an "error on page"
when I preview in my browser and the images fail to load. I noticed that if
I limit the slideshow to 4 images, then *WHAM* It works just fine.. but if I
add one more image to make it 5, all of a sudden I get the same error
message.. I've been searching the script up and down for the problem but
can't seem to find it..

Any reason it would be limited to 4 images? I would like to set it up for 15
images if thats possible..

Any help is appreciatet. I'm using Win2k, FP2k, IE6.

THANKS!

DHTML Slideshow - limited to only 4 images?

Post by Crash Gordo » Sat, 14 Sep 2002 13:24:47

I have 47 images in my Photogallery Slide Show. No problems except a few people are having problems on Macs. They can only see the first 4 images and it doesnt scroll past the 4th. And then locks up their browser. OR.. it will display way out to the right - like into infinity :-)

They have tried it on several browsers, so I think prob is Mac OS. But, I am not sure yet.

Maybe a Java S. thing? I can't find problem either. I wonder if our problems are similar. If you discover anything lemme know, please.

DHTML Slideshow - limited to only 4 images?

Whee! I figured it out... This is exactly the kind of slideshow I was
looking for...

////////////In <HEAD>:

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">

var num=1
img1 = new Image ()
img1.src = "images/samples/pop001.jpg"
img2 = new Image ()
img2.src = "images/samples/pop002.jpg"
img3 = new Image ()
img3.src = "images/samples/pop003.jpg"
img4 = new Image ()
img4.src = "images/samples/pop004.jpg"
img5 = new Image ()
img5.src = "images/samples/pop005.jpg"
img6 = new Image ()
img6.src = "images/samples/pop006.jpg"

function slideshowUp()
{
num=num+1
if (num==7)
{num=1}
document.mypic.src=eval("img"+num+".src")

Quote:}

function slideshowBack()
{
num=num-1
if (num==0)
{num=6}
document.mypic.src=eval("img"+num+".src")

Quote:}

</SCRIPT>

--------------------------------------------

///////////////THE IMAGES:

<IMG SRC="images/samples/pop001.jpg" NAME="mypic" BORDER=0 HEIGHT="310"
WIDTH="443">

-------------------------------------------
///////////////Foward / Back links:

<A HREF="JavaScript:slideshowBack()"> <b>B A C
K</b></A>&nbsp;&nbsp;</font><font face="Verdana" size="1"
color="#DEB887">|</font><font face="Verdana"size="1"
color="#C0C0C0">&nbsp;&nbsp;<A HREF="JavaScript:slideshowUp()"><b>N E X
T</b></A></font>

-----------------------------------------------

Its perfect.. simple, yet effective- just displays the picture, with "back"
and "next" links to bring you forward or back.

Whoo. It only took me 3 hours!

DHTML Slideshow - limited to only 4 images?

If you're talking about the slideshow that comes with fp's web components
it's an applet of the java persuasion if I remember correctly.  I had some
problems with it and discontinued using it.

1. Flash Addin Updated - Image Slideshows

Hey all,

Just a quick note that FrontFX FrontFlash (at
http://www.xzmedia.com/frontfx) has been updated to version 1.4 to
include a new component : Flash Driven Image Slide Shows!

The new component allows you to specify your own set of JPG images or
SWF files from your hard drive, a template size for the images to work
within, an effect (Slide In, Fade In/Out, Circular entry) and a border
if desired.

It then copies the whole lot into your current Frontpage Web along
with the required set of Flash files, and inserts the Flash code etc
into the current page.  Quick and easy!

The slideshow can either run automatically and/or switch pictures when
they are clicked on.

The Addin is currently available as an update only ZIP file for
systems with FrontFlash 1.31 installed however a full V1.4 installer
will be available over the next 24-48 hours.

Cheers to all and keep the great addin ideas coming!
