This is the strangest thing I've ever seen. Can only explain what
happened with reference to my still-experimental page at
http://www.lifetimelearners.org/fall_99_courses.htm.
At the top there is a table of courses. One (Accidental Art)is
hyperlinked to a bookmarked course description in the 42 descriptions
below. Note that each course description has one or more paragraphs
about the course, then a paragraph about the facilitator(the Accidental
Art facilitator is Carol Cole.)Then a line about dates and times.
I just opened this page in FP2K to insert all 42 bookmarks and create
the hyperlinks. When I did a few of those, most of the facilitator
paragraphs disappeared! No more mention of Carol Cole, nothing about
class times. Same with most of the other facilitator paragraphs, though
not all. I'm totally baffled. The disappearances are not arbitrary,
they are systematically crazy! Does anyone have a clue?
Possible clues:
The table had been brought from Excel into Word with paste special,
then saved in Word as html, then imported into FP2K.
The course-description page started as a Word doc that was sent to me.
I saved it as html, imported it into FP2K.

Looks fine to me in IE. I see all the text.

Hi Dave, So pleased to hear from you ... The page I sent
you to is OK, because I didn't upload again after the
disaster happened. The chopped-up page exists only here on
my hard drive. I suggested that you look at the OK page
just as a reference so you'd know what I was talking about,
what paragraphs have since disappeared. Marilyn

July 31 Hi again Dave, I thought I could work around this problem
myself, but it's beyond me. Today on another page, I had a paragraph
saying Jackie Steiner (name in boldface) is a singer of folk and
classical music etc.
It looked OK in normal view, but when previewed in Netscape, Jackie's
name wasn't there, only the letter J. Went to html, and this is what I
found. Note in particular this segment, where there's no name, only a J.

Those lines are generated by MS Word2000 and are style tags that are used
for Microsoft's new process called "round-tripping". This allows you to
re-open the page in Word and maintain your Formatting. I'm not sure how
this will affect the page. Send me the URL again and I'll take a look in
different browsers.

Also, HOW did you create this page? Did you copy and paste from Word,
Insert a File or, in Word, Save as a Web Page to the server.

I can't remember exactly what I did, but I'm sure your question is very
appropriate. I'm going to have to experiment with the various ways to
bring Word files in and watch carefully what happens. I think I saved
as a web page in Word and imported the files, but not sure. In the
meantime, I'm getting by with a workaround (broke the page up into
unrelated pieces. Never uploaded the damaged pages, so there's nothing
to see at the URL. Thank you, will get back later. P.S. If you have any
advice as to the best way to bring the docs in, please let me know!
