Hit Counter does not appear

Hit Counter does not appear

Post by thejo » Mon, 10 Aug 1998 04:00:00

I have recently published a page using the hit counter element in Front
Page.  Here's the scenario:

On my local PC, when I preview in browser, the hit counter displays and is
incremented.

When I published the page to my ISP's server the image did not appear.  I
simply get an indication that their should be a counter but no image
appears.  It's as though the physical image of the counter (type 4) did not
upload.

I think I have the fpcount.exe and pagename.html-cnt files in the correct
directories.

The page address is www.ticnet.com/toastmasters/planotm.html.
Note: My ISP supports Front Page Extensions, uses something called Server
Side Includes (ssi).  If I use their code which activates the ssi I get a
plain jane text type of counter.  I wanted a more graphic display.

Any assistance would be appreciated
I have taken the following steps:

1.  Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks
2.  File | Publish  and only upload pages which have been changed
3. File | Publish and uploaded the entire site from my local system.

Snip..

While your ISP may support the Front Page Extensions, they may not have the
'counter' elements installed. I don't know about the FP98 extensions, but for
the  FP97 extensions, the hit counter elements had to be installed separately,
they were not a part of the default FP Extension installation.

Have you specifically asked your ISP about the page counter capability ? If
not, give them a call.

Thanks for your input.

It's Sunday here and my ISP's support folks are off.  I will ask them about
this tomorrow.

Regards,

joe.
