Ethernet node discovery ?

Ethernet node discovery ?

Post by David Balaz » Wed, 16 Jul 2003 04:01:25

Is there an ethernet equivalent of IP "ping 255.255.255.255" ?

I want to discover what nodes are present on the LAN.
They have no TCP/IP stack ( or they are not responding to pings ), so
I can't use that.

What I am doing it discovering the properties of my ADSL modem.
It is connected to my ethernet ( 100TX ) card on one side and to the
wall socket on the other side. I am curios if it runs any TCP/IP
services,
is it an ethernet node at all etc.

Regards and thanks for any answers,
David Balazic

PS.: Software for Windows XP preferred, but Linux is not a problem
either.
