Sunnyvale,CA - Virtual-Time Software, Inc. today announced the release
of RT-Win for VxWorks, a product based on an enabling technology that
allows Windows 3.1 and VxWorks to coexist on a single PC or PC type
architecture.

RT-Win runs Windows 3.1x  (enhanced mode) as a task under the control
of VxWorks application.  This flexibility coupled with the
deterministic behavior of VxWorks provides a robust solution to develop
real-time applications utilizing the services provided under Windows
for data processing and GUI's.

RT-Win solves two different problems faced by both the Windows
community and the real-time community.  To the Windows community, it
provides a solution to develop Windows applications that have real-time
requirements. To the real-time community, it provides access to the
multitude of existing Windows software and access to an industry
standard GUI.

RT-Win is the bridge between a General purpose operating system like
Windows and a real-time operating systems.

RT-Win features include data transfer capability between Windows
applications and VxWorks tasks,  access to all devices, including
networked devices controlled by Windows drivers, for persistent
storage, both self-hosted development using VxWorks for Windows, and
cross development using SUN, and finally networking support either
using third party TCP/IP stacks or VxWorks TCP/IP stacks.

RT-Win for VxWorks comes with software components for both Windows
and VxWorks.  Windows components are a Virtual Device Driver (VxD)
which is the gateway between VxWorks and Windows, a Dynamic Link
Library (DLL) for Windows applications to communicate with VxWorks,
example Windows applications illustrating the use of the API, a
Virtual SLIP DLL to support self-hosted development and networking.
VxWorks components include a new board support package (BSP) for
VxWorks, new drivers to access disk drives, including networked
drives under Windows control, and example VxWorks applications to
illustrate the use of the library functions to communicate with
Windows.  A user's manual with detailed explanations of functions
and the theory of operation is included.
