zoo 2.x "move" bug (MS-DOS version)

Bug in zoo version 2.1 for MS-DOS as posted in comp.binaries.ibm.pc:

Try zoo with command "add" and option "move", as in

        zoo.exe -move 123456789.zoo *.*

If the basename of the zoo archive is longer than 8 characters,
you will loose your files!

Have a look at this example:
("e:>" is the prompt, output is slightly edited)

e:> cd \tmp
e:> dir
 .            <DIR>     10.09.90   1.07
 ..           <DIR>     10.09.90   1.07
 a.c                 3  12.07.91  20.27
 b.c                 3  12.07.91  20.27
e:> zoo.exe -move 123456789.zoo *.*
 Zoo:  12345678.zoo --  ( 0%) added
 Zoo:  a.c          --  ( 0%) added
 Zoo:  b.c          --  ( 0%) added
 -----
 Erasing added files...
 Zoo:  12345678.zoo -- erased
 Zoo:  a.c          -- erased
 Zoo:  b.c          -- erased
e:> dir
 .            <DIR>     10.09.90   1.07
 ..           <DIR>     10.09.90   1.07
e:>

The same bug occurs with zoo version 2.0x

1. question about "zoo xp foo.tar.zoo foo.tar" usage

comp.compression people,

i would like to be able to use a zoo archive in a way similar to how i
use a .tar.Z file:

    % zcat foo.tar.Z | tar -xvf -

however,

    % zoo xp foo.tar.zoo foo.tar | tar -xvf -

doesn't work because foo.tar is prepended with:

    ********
    foo.tar
    ********

is there any way a non-filter zoo file can be made to behave this way?
