Need NetBIOS service to appear in FileManager

Post by Paul Lenn » Sun, 17 Mar 1996 04:00:00

I am trying to create a file service which will run on an NT server.  The
service will intercept incoming SMB file transactions and redirect them to my
company's mass storage system.  I have found the SMB specification and I've
played with some of the naming functions in Win32.  But I have yet export a
NetBIOS service such that it will appear in the FileManager.  Any ideas?

1. NEWBIE question: help needed with setting file permissions in filemanager

I hope this isn't a FAQ 'cause I've looked just about everywhere I could
think of.

I've just set-up SAMBA.
Connecting WinNT clients to the server is no problem. Browsing the files
and changing dirs works fine.
However, when I try to access the file permissions via the NT
filemanager, I get the following message:

"This is a share-level server. You can only set permissions and auditing
information on Windows NT File System (NTFS) volumes and LAN Manager 2.x
user-level servers."

In my smb.conf, I use "protocol = LANMAN2". I've had the same problem
wether "security = server" or "security=share".

Can anybody help? Can anything be done?
