"Text File Busy" when using smbfs under linux

Post by br.. » Tue, 24 Sep 1996 04:00:00

Hi folks,

I'm backing up an NT workstation by SMB-mounting it's disks to
a linux machine, then using the linux machine to tar workstation's files
to tape.  This seems to work fine for files which aren't in use on the
NT workstation.  Many files, however, cause tar to generate errors like:

tar: read error at byte 0, reading 7680 bytes, in file
     /mnt/WINDOWS/SYSTEM/DOSAPP.FON : Text file busy

Is there a way around this, or is it just not possible to back up "open"
files on the NT workstation by this method?

                                        Thanks in advance,

1. Problems with special characters like ("?","ΓΌ","?","?",aso.)

I use Samba 2.0.4b.
When I copy a file with a filename including a special
character from a win95 machine to my linux server, I dont find the special
characters any more. They have changed to "_" or something like that.

What can I do?
Do I have to write something special in the smb.conf?
