Problems with locks on HP-UX 10.20 with Samba 2.2.3a

Problems with locks on HP-UX 10.20 with Samba 2.2.3a

Post by Constantin Wiem » Tue, 19 Feb 2002 21:46:38

Hi all,

I encountered the following problem with Samba 2.2.3a on HP-UX 10.20:
Everything runs fine for a couple of hours. Then suddenly some clients
(Windows NT, apparently not Windows 95/98) are no longer able to
access the server and I see in log.smbd the error message
"nt_printing_init: Failed to open nt printers database
/usr/local/samba/var/locks/ntprinters.tdb (No locks available)

I read some messages in comp.protocols.smb saying that there is a
general problem with locks and Samba 2.2 on HP-UX 10.20. Is there a
patch for either Samba or HP-UX or a workaround for this problem?

Many thanks in advance,

Constantin Wiemer

1. Samba 2.05 HP-UX 10.20 PDC-accounts are locked out

hi folks,

on one server we have to administrate Samba 2.05a is running.

The phenomena is that when users are trying to connect to a network
share Samba is sending wrong passowrds and after 7 attempts the acoount
is disabled

PDC is a WinNT 4 Server.

What people around here heard is the following: NT4 has a bug. SAMBA is
sending a wrong password first to test if the bug is not foxed on that
PDC system or not.  Depending on the result SAMBA is running a kind of
error handling.

have you information on that, can you confirm ? What bug is that SAMBA
is trying to find out ?

THX a lot
