Is this a winbind thing?

Is this a winbind thing?

Greetings.

I am trying to install some software to a samba share from a windows
2000 workstation.

During the installation, I get an error that forces me to abort.

Event Type:     Error
Event Source:   MsiInstaller
Event Category: None
Event ID:       11321
Date:           6/27/2003
Time:           10:14:02 AM
User:           N/A
Computer:       RUPPSH
Description:
Product: A-O Solutions Release 7 -- Error 1321.The Installer has
insufficient privileges to modify the file
j:\AOApp\Common\Help\d6eaa46.rbf.

ls -al in this directory gives:
-rwxrwxrwx    1 root     root        12571 Jan  5  2000 BILLING.HLP
-rwxrwxrwx    1 root     root       281937 Apr 16  2001 d6eaa46.rbf

I can create a new file and edit it in the share.

smb.conf snippet:

# Global parameters
[global]
         log file = /var/log/samba.%m
         lpq command =
         obey pam restrictions = yes
         wins server = 192.168.1.14
         interfaces = lo eth0
         map to guest = Bad User
         hosts allow = 127. 192.168.
         encrypt passwords = Yes
         lprm command =

         winbind uid = 10000-20000
         keepalive = 30
         dns proxy = No
         netbios name = WILLIAM
         print command =
         server string = GPSC Application Samba Server
         invalid users = root
         kernel oplocks = No
         password server = *
         winbind gid = 10000-20000
         template homedir = /home/win/%D/%U
         local master = No
         workgroup = GPSC
         os level = 2
         security = domain
         winbind separator = +
         bind interfaces only = Yes
         max log size = 50
         log level = 3

[Apps]
         comment = GPSC Applications
         path = /home/apps
         read only = No
         create mask = 0777
         directory mask = 0777
         guest only = Yes
         guest ok = Yes

So, I think, hmmm, maybe the windows installer is being treated as a
user that can't be mapped by winbind and looking into
/var/log/samba/winbind.log shows:

but I cannot make sense of it.  And, of course, wbinfo -u doesn't show a
user MsiInstaller.

This is samba 2.2.8 running on Redhat 7.2

What do I need to do to make this work?

Thank you in advance to any helpful suggestions

1. I am trying to do mean things to Team Services

FYI I did a nice long search on the messages and found this:

Parth,

You can add fields to the userinfo table.  Add a field in "UserInfo"
List in base.xml.  Unfortunately the UserInfo table is special, even
if you reinstall the SPTS site, you must add the column manually using
SQLServer Enterprise.
I did this a while back, and it worked.  You need to also add a
<FieldRef> to the <ViewFields>.

---------------
I am going to give this a go to try the rest of my extensions but from this
post it should work when provisioning a NEW site (virtual server). This is
something I am cooking up for a proposal and auto addition into newly
provisioned sites is a design goal.

Again......anyone with some infor on the mysteries of BASE.xml please reply
with your 2 cents.
