nmbd starting as a daemon twice?

nmbd starting as a daemon twice?

Post by uwe » Tue, 30 Mar 1999 04:00:00

Since Samba 2.0.3 (on Linux kernel 2.0.36), smbd and nmbd seem not
needed to be detached with -D. But starting smbd and nmbd will cause
nmbd to run twice:

 6394  ?  S    0:00 /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd
 6396  ?  S    0:00 /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd
 6406  ?  S    0:00 /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd

Is this correct?!

Cheers,

Hi,

This is normal. If you enable the WINS server (wins support = yes), then by
default the WINS server will also act as a DNS proxy agent by default (can be
set off by the parameter 'dns proxy = no'). Because name lookup is blocking
action, then two instances of the daemon are forked.
