Cable Modem.?

I live in nYC(Queens, S. ozone Park).  I was just reading a clipping on
Media One's Home Page.  It said that it will provide its so
called"broadband" network technology to cities around the world.  It will
allow for 2 way transfer so that you can order pay per view via your remote
control.  I've been doing that for years now.  I currently have 98 channels
on my tv.  Is that 2 way transfer( So that i can seriously hope for Cable
modems to arrive in nyc)?  And do they have to lay Fiber Optic Cables
directly into my house or will the coaxial cables be enough, or do they just
have to upgrade there network to fiber optics?      THANX !

They are refering to IMPULSE PPV.  Not like you are using now.  Some call it
VIDEO on DEMAND.  You can Fast foward, stop, rewind your PPV show.  this
requires being on a fiber plant (to reduce noise and improve c/n ratios) and
being on a 2way reverse capable plant.  This plant will also support 2way
cable modems and Worldgate (internet TV).

1. Cable modem and connection 2 another cable modem user

Hello-

A friend and I are both on seperate cable modems and we are having
connection problems.  We connect absolutely fine to anything else, just
not to each other.  It does not matter how we are trying to connect
either, ex. icq, games, heat.net.  Also, we cannot ping each other.  He

(now att) tech ppl and they told me every answer in the book and many
seemed like it was MY fault... Reasons would lead anything from I not
knowing how to use the software (which I have used for years on my trusty
dialup modem), to one of my favorites, "Well we got you onto the net,
didn't we?"  I can connect with someone else on a cable modem (because
they are on a different wingate, subnet?) not more than a block from my
house, but not to my friend across the city.  If it is because we are on
the same subnet, is there any work arounds?  Maybe some sort of software
proxy program?  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated...  (DSL? lol)

Thanks,

     Enigma
