IBM TYPE A over category 5 cable ?

IBM TYPE A over category 5 cable ?

Post by Grant Smit » Tue, 23 Jun 1998 04:00:00

Hi,

We're installing category 5 in a new office for our lan. We also have an
old AS/400 with four terminals connected via IBM type A cable. Is it
possible to have an adapter on each end of a cat 5 point sothat I don't
have to use this horrible, thick IBM cable all over too ?

Thanks in advance,
Grant.

Yes, we used baluns during our transistion to Cat-5 from that black stuff
and it worked great.  Now that we are running token-ring, ethernet, and
still some terminals all is well.

1. Moving IBM type 2 to category 5

We're considering moving from our traditional IBM type 2 cabling system
to category 5 STP.  Has anyone made a similar move or have any
suggestions for us in this decision?  We're currently running all
IBM Token-Ring LANs with source route bridging.  Thanks.
