Help needed regarding a Sportster ISDN TA

Post by Ronny B. Thomasse » Sat, 14 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Hello there,

I've just installed a Sportster ISDN TA on my computer which
is running Win98. After running setup from the software provided
by the manufactor, Win98 is unable to detect it.

The status reportet by the OS is that the card is not proparbly
installed,
or some of the drivers needed is missing (code 10). Try to update the
drivers it says.

I've tried a lot of things, but it is still no working.

Have anyone had the same problem, and does anyone have a solution?

Please advise...

Ronny, I had trouble with my old Diamond NetCommander ISDN TA
when I upgraded to Win98 (due to old drivers).  Basically, Win98
should 'find' the card before you install any of the third-party
(USR in this case) drivers, and start asking you about SPID's and
stuff.

If this didn't happen when you first stuck the board in the box,
then I'm wondering if
   a) you had a previous TA in the machine, whose drivers are
still active (i.e., not uninstalled), or
   b) you installed Win95 drivers instead of Win98, or
   c) the TA is defective.

If it did happen (Win98 found the board on first boot) then I'm
at a loss.  You might take a look at the USR website for updated
drivers or perhaps a troubleshooting FAQ.

Rgds and Good Luck,
Mark R.

Help needed regarding a Sportster ISDN TA

I found that using USR's software caused more headaches than what it's
worth.  I totally uninstalled everything that the USR setup had left behind,
and installed the Win98 drivers.  This solved my problem.  However, you have
to be very sure of your hardware settings.  An IRQ conflict with the TA may
not show up in Win98 like you would expect.  Just my 2 cents....

Help needed regarding a Sportster ISDN TA

I just got my sportster working with Win95 (after **much** gnashing of teeth
and searching 3Com's site), but here's some info re: NT and the sportster ISDN
card.

1) NT doesn't support plug-and-play, you need to set the hardware IRQ and
address yourself.  Only valid IRQs are 5,9,10,11,12,13,15.  Only valid memory
addresss are: 0x300, 0x320 or 0x340 for NT.  You need to match the jumper
setting for the address you choose (see 3Com's site in the 'TOTALService' area
for more.

Hope this helps.

I had this same problem.  I got the newest drivers (5.4.10) from
3com's homepage, and followed their directions, including booting to
DOS prompt and replacing the file SIBBRI.386.  No luck.  I removed
everything and re-installed, WITHOUT replacing SIBBRI.386, and it has
worked fine.

Just my experience.
