Ascend P75 S/T termination question

Ascend P75 S/T termination question

Post by mc » Tue, 02 Feb 1999 04:00:00

I have an Ascend Pipeline 75 with S/T interface that was mistakenly
ordered for me as a replacement for an Ascend Pipeline 75 with a U
interface. This was done by SWBell after they assured me that "we
never order S/T interface routers". Well, anyway. I got them to give
me an Adtran NT1 so that I could at least use the thing.

My question is:

What is the termination resistance on the S/T interface of the Ascend
P75? The Adtran NT1 allows for none, 50 ohm or 100 ohm termination via
a switch but I don't know which I should use.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

A) Likely 100. In theory ISTM each end needs to be 50, but with
short runs, you can make it 100+0.

B) Experimenting is cheap & easy. So try 100, 50 etc...

i assume that you mean on the S/T interface side. the S/T interface is
normally configured for 100 ohm termination at each end of the bus. if the
ascend provides a termination of 100 ohm at its S/T interface then you
should provide 100 ohm at the NT-1. if the ascend does not have any
termination and the S/T cable is short then provide 50 ohm at the NT-1.
hope this helps

1. (ASCEND) Re: Ascend P75 now doing NAT

Yes. But currently only to one host on the LAN. (4.6Ci14)
Full LAN support will be in a later release.

The FTP issue has been addressed, though I don't know the
technical details (it works!). I have heard of other potential
problems with higher level applications that might need to know
the actual IP address of the host - I've not actually seen the
problems though.
