Perhaps your client is just not connecting to the ILS server [hence the
error], and as such the directory doesn't list anyone as online?

Solution :
Brian Sullivan (the pro ;-) ) wrote in a previous message :

-----------------------
Win2000 uses a different port as default port for ILS usage(tcp 1002) --
most ILS use the earlier LDAP default ( tcp 389).

Usually this problem goes away if you add the port designator to the ils
name ( ie. instead of ils.demon.co.uk use ils.demon.co.uk:389)
-----------------------

it resolved my problem , thanks brian
however, i still dont know why it used to work , and is not working if i
dont enter the port now !?!

Thanks man

The difference is the O/S -- on Win98 NM assumes 389 on Win2000 it uses 1002
by default.

I seem to be having the same problem as WaLiD.  Unfortunately your solution
didn't also solve my problem.  First, system and symptoms:

Win 2K and Netmeeting: highest revs and service packs on both.  Running
through BlackICE Defender firewall.  I have all the required ports opened in
the firewall (389, 522, 1503, 1720, 1731).
I am logging onto a server, no error, and the icon shows that I am logged
on.  Others are able to find me on the server.  I have entered the following
information for the server: meetnow.autodesk.com  389

When I click on the "find someone" icon under that directory server the
hourglass stays busy.  Any ideas?

I have no problem listing the directory of that server ( somewhat slow - it
took a minute or so to load) so I don't know -- I don't use BID - so I
really don't know what effect it has -- what happens if you disable or
uninstall it?

The server entry should be "meetnow.autodesk.com:389" ( without the quotes -
i.e. with colon 389 appended to name) -- is that the way you are entering
it?

That was it, missed the colon and put in a space.

Thanx

The standard LDAP port I believe is used in Win2000 for  active directory
implementation relegating the ( apparently less important) ILS server port
to the lower rung and port 1002.

1. Problem of using Skippy in Netmeeting SDK to access ILS server

I download the NetMeeting 2.1 SDK and compile the sample application
Skippy.  I try to use it to access different ILS servers listed in the
Meeting Place web site (www.netmeet.net) but only have limited success.
I am able to get user information from
ILS.MICROSOFT.COM and ILS.NETMEET.NET but access failure occurs for
other sites - e.g. ILS.FOUR11.COM.  Can anyone explain the reason for
the failure?  I am expecting that all ILS servers should be using the
same setting for access.  Am I wrong about that?

Thanks in advance.
