sendmail->uucp->uucp->sendmail->msmail stmp gateway

Hi Everyone:
   Please help me save sendmail from being replaced by $$$Micro$oft msmail.
Basically if we could not get our sendmail to talk to msmail at our
corporate office, we will have to go to msmail. Yaks!
   After several experimentation, we conclude that we can not configure
the dumb msmail smtp gateway to redirect our private mails through the
modem instead of going over the modem.

   Okay, this is the requirement. We are to connect to the corporate through
a private line (via modems). At the same time, we can also connected to the
Internet on both sides.

                  private line
   our office <---------------------> coporate office
     |                                    |
     |                                    |
     V                                    V
    Internet                            Internet

  In the corporate office, users are using M$Mail and in our office, we are
using sendmail.

   Since the Micro$oft smtp gateway, is not as smart as sendmail. I came up
with this plan

                  UUCP
    our office<------------------->sendmail host--------->msmail stmp gatway
       |                                |                      |
       |                                |                      |
       V                                v                      V
     Internet                       Internet                corporate office

  My questions are:
  1) How do I rewrite the rules to make our mails from our office through
     UUCP be converted into stmp format and forword the mails over to the
     msmail stmp gateway?

  2) I was able to catch all mails going to corporate from our office to go
     through the UUCP line. However, the return address of the mail is wrong.

     This is how it looks:

   3) One last question. Is there any other products or ways that will solve
      this problem simply?

Thanks in advance
Keith

I Keith,

I hope this will help you.  I cannot tell you how to rewrite your rules or why
your uucp return address is wrong but I can tell you that I have installed
an MSM SMTP gateway to convert all mail coming from the Internet to
Microsoft Mail since Microsoft SMTP product wasn't having all the facilities
and functions required.  It is easy to install and configure and I am
very impressed by the capabilities of their product.

Requirements of this product is :
        Windown NT (unfortunately you must have windows NT 3.5 )
        Microsoft Mail PostOffice upgrade (last release of msm postoffice
        does not contain access gateway support)

I think this will solve you problem.  Within 2 days of configuration and installation
and may be one day of buffer you should be up and running.  You can have a
90 days trial for the software.  OK, now that I have your attention the
name of the product is Postal Union SMTP Gateway.  For more information
you can visit http://www.ie.com the name of the company is Information
Electronics.  This company is specialized in SMTP gateway for the Internet.

They have products for SMTP, UUCP, MSM, cc:mail, Lotus Notes, ..., you'll see.

By the way I really like the product and I am not working for
this company. (We never know), I installed it successfully 2 weeks ago and I think it is
actually one of the best gateway product (for Windows) on the market.

Francis

1. ISP <<UUCP>> linux <<smtp>> mailhost

I'm having problems with the above setup.  I'm using sendmail 8.8.4 and
Redhat 4.1.  I can mail from the linux to the mailhost by internet form:

and it works but the incoming mail from the isp doesn't get delivered here
is the errors sendmail gives:
Running LAB02236 (sequence 3 of 6)
pemberton!felix.teclink.net!bgates... pemberton: Name server timeout
pemberton!felix.teclink.net!bgates... Transient parse error -- message
queued fo
r future delivery

Running LAB02235 (sequence 4 of 6)
pemberton!Venus.mcs.net!bgates... pemberton: Name server timeout
pemberton!Venus.mcs.net!bgates... Transient parse error -- message queued
for fu
ture delivery

Running LAB02179 (sequence 5 of 6)
pemberton!matthew... pemberton: Name server timeout
pemberton!matthew... Transient parse error -- message queued for future
delivery

pemberton is the smartmailer or ISPs server.  It doesn't seem to be
rewriting the mail to internet form?

Please help
Matthew
