Using ONE set of OUTLOOK EXPRESS e-mail/news folders from TWO+ computers

Post by Francis K Shi » Tue, 09 Mar 1999 04:00:00

I have Outlook Express on my desktop and Outlook Express on my notebook.
When I am at HOME I login to my ISP and pick up my mail and news from the
internet.  When I am on the road I login to my ISP or local ISP to pick up
my mail and news also from the internet.

What I would like to do is somehow have only ONE set of folders that contain
all the mail and news that I pick up from the internet.  How can I do this?

Thanks in advance.

For an Outlook Express specific newsgroup, see:
s

You will find out information about issues affecting Outlook Express at:
Outlook Express User Tips - http://www.okinfoweb.com/moe/

If you have the 2 PCs configured with identical mail and news accounts (this
information is stored in the registry) and you can conveniently move
megabytes of data between the two PCs you could copy/replace the entire
contents of the mail and news directories from one PC to the other each time
you switch PCs.

You could set your mail to be deleted from the server after a
certain number of days.

Tools/Accounts/E-mail/Advanced/Properties/Advanced/ and then leave
copy on server, remove after X days.

If you take the interval of days longer than the minimum you expect
to NOT retrive e-mail on one of the computers, you have identical
folders on both computers.

Unfortunately, Outlook Express does not allow easy moving or
storing of folders. You need complex workarounds, unless you copy
the files as a whole including folders.nch.

I did this. At work my PC is hooked up all the time to the internet. I made
a share that exports the Mail directories from my machine at work. On the
machine at home I modified the registry to get the files from that share.
WARNING it is very slow across a 128K ISDN line. Then again I do have nearly
300 messages in my inbox, probably would be faster if I didn't do that.
