Sendmail not resolving hostname

Sendmail not resolving hostname

Post by James.Mur.. » Fri, 30 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Hi there,
I have quite a simple problem with sendmail on one of my HP-UX boxes
but cannot figure it out. The problem is that I have /etc/hosts
configed correctly and sendmail.cf and .cw. I have stopped
/sbin/init.d/sendmail and started it again, but when I go to send a
mail and I tail the /var/adm/syslog/mail.log file it gives unable to
resolve host name "EXCHANGE01". This is added to the /etc/hosts file
and I can ping the * from the cmd line...
...Finally I have copied the sendmail.cf and .cw from another box,
which is working with the exact same ver of sendmail as the bad box, to
the bad box. Both are in the same network. This also does not work.

Can anybody help, please!!!

A stressed..
James :(

As I understand EXCHANGE01 is your smart host.
If its true than use its IP address directly

DS[aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd]

It is quick fix which may give you some time to find
a better solution
