hi,
instead of  "tech improvement "of nm3 , i always preferred the look of
nm 2.11,and the possibility to switch video between people in conference...

3.01 has improved video and RDS, but 2.11 had features that were removed in
3.01

1. The ability to switch audio and video from one person to another in the
same meeting. Also, you can disconnect and reconnect video and audio in case
you have a bad connection.
2. History updates automatically
3. History shows whether a call was accepted or received
4. Speeddial will show when users on speeddial are logged in
5. When placing a call, you have the option to cancel if the other party is
in a meeting.
6. Audio and video hardware is shown graphically when in a call, and whether
it's on or off. Basically, you can tell almost immediately if the party
calling you has video and whether or not it's on. Also, when you call
someone, you can tell if the video and audio connected properly or not.
Netmeeting is notoriously unreliable in making a proper connection.

There are others, but those are the major points that come to mind. This is
what I recommend: if you're going to use it primarily to talk to friends and
family, use 3.01 for the better video, audio and RDS. If you are going to
use it to make and receive random calls from the ILS servers, then
definately use 2.11.

As far as I've seen, the video difference is not that significant. And it's
very possible that the other party may be using 2.11 anyway. With your
connection, just set your slider to slower speed/better quality and you'll
be fine. I've found that the version of netmeeting used is the LEAST
important variable.Bandwidth, camera, lighting and processing power are the
real biggies.

I've been using Netmeetign 3.01 for a while.
I didnt' find any remarkable difference in video quality between .211 and
3.01..
Especially if u have large bandwidth like me ( DSL ).
Netmeeting 2.11 overall performance is better than 3.01.
I'm afraid that 2.11 life is going to end soon...
And I cant find any good news about future version of netmeeting (integrated
in msn messenger) so far...:-(((
I really cant understand why Microsoft wants to break down
the huge potential of Netmeeting in being the real exciting alternative to
Irc (txt only) related clients .
The videochat is growing faster and faster.
The few ILS remaining are overcrowded of chatters...hundreds...thounsands
(only 2 yrs ago they were tens ).
I heard that the future version on netmeeting won't support ILS tecnology at
all.
Why Microsoft dont understand the Directories is THE ONLY  good way to make
brand new friends?
All most succesful chat programs mIRC, ICUII, CUSEEME are based on
directories.
You see a nickname that u like ...click on it...and u're done.
It's so easy.....
Why do they want to downgrade such a great program like netmeeting to a
hybrid ICQ- like software?
Netmeeting success is based on 2 simple things.
1) it's free
2) directories.

I think they're going to make a BIG mistake.

1. using netmeeting 1. with someone with netmeeting 2

Yes you will -- I have talked to people that use versions 1.0 , 2.0b1 , &
2.0b2 -- the only difference is 1.0 does not have as good a sound quality
as 2.0b1 and 2.0b2 .

2.0b2 also loads the directories faster .
