Form Recognition Software [Fields to be used in Acrobat]

Hi there,

I am looking for a Form Recognition Software meaning by importing or
scanning the specific Form the Software should pick up the Form Fields
and the fields should be usable in Acrobat as a field; as far as I
know OmniForm Premium Can Save their Forms as a acrobat PDF form but
it becomes an image and I loose the fields and this is not what I
want.

Please reply with any information or suggestions; your help is very
much appreciated
Joel

There are a number of corporate products that do this but you need to
compose the form in the software first and save as a template which is then
used in the scanning and field recognition stage - it's used for scanning in
tick box questionnaires for example, if it sounds like what you are after,
go search for Formic software, that's the version I know, regards Tom

I think the OmniForm/Acrobat system would be the best. Once the form is made
or scanned, import or print it to Acrobat and you set up the form fields
withinin Acrobat IIRC. Regardless of what package you use to digitize or
create the form, if it is going to end up as a PDF, then form definitions
and such will ultimately have to be setup in Acrobat. I use Acrobat 5.05,
but never setup form fields so I can't give specifics, but I think it is
possible. The only thing that will come into play is security. Acrobat is
not only used for its portability, but because it is secure, you can keep
anyone from doing anything to it, including print. When you start letting
someone fill in form fields in an Acrobat form, the security system inherent
to PDF files will have to also be addressed and properly setup to allow
input.

This method will take more time (since you will have to setup each and every
field once in PDF format), but you are limited by trying to use a PDF as a
form filler, which is not its primary function. This is why OmniForm has a
seperate utility (for more $$$) that is a stand alone form filler, to
simplify such matters.

1. Using the Acrobat 3.0 FDF file for form field updates...

Has anyone successfully displayed a pdf file via the acrobat3.0
plugi-in, used this pdf file to process data like an HTML form, and
been able to refresh fields declared in the form(pdf file) by sending
only a fdf file instead of the whole pdf over again?

Specific details needed are:
1) how do you send an fdf file back to the plug-in?
2) does this require a special mime spec?
