Umax S-12 Vibration, chatter

Post by Gerry To » Sun, 06 Jul 1997 04:00:00

When I turned my scanner on for the first time in a week yesterday, it
started vibrating and making noise.  It does it whether the computer
is connected to it or not.

Anyone know how I can stop the problem, or am I going to have to send
it back for repair?

Thanks.

Gerry,

Have you unlock the scanner before turning on the power? You have to
turn the restraint toward the unlock position.

Yes, the scanner was unlocked - had used it without trouble a few days
earlier.  Now whenever I turn power on, it vibrates and makes a bad
noise.

Sometimes the restraint will catch just a little bit.  Try locking down
the scanning mechanism and then unlocking it again.

A more unorthodox procedure is to use the "gravity-assist" method.  Tilt
the front of the scanner down and gently shake the scanner 'til the scan
mechanism moves forward.  BE CAREFUL, THOUGH!  Don't point the front of
the scanner down too steeply, or you can crash it into the front of the
unit pretty hard!  (The "safer" method is to take the cover off <4
screws on the top of the unit> and to manually make sure nothing's
catching.)

1. Blue screen when I try to scan a picture by Umax S-12

Hi,
I use a Umax S-12 acanner in Win98. Every time I install a new application
which has to do with images, such as webcams, image organizers etc, I get a
problem with my scanner. At this time, when trying to scan or even perform a
scanner test, I get a blue screen saying something about interrupt 06 and
the application is terminated. How can I solve this problem?
