SYSTEM NEWS FOR SUN USERS
Vol 64 Issue 4 2003-06-23 Article 10230 from section "Entry Level Servers"
Sun Products and Services Raise Revenues, Simplify Network
Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), a provider of business process and
information technology outsourcing solutions, recently needed to expand
its midrange solution offerings. Turning to Sun, the company was
equipped with Sun Fire[TM] servers for a complete products and services
solution. Additionally, the company used Sun Services[SM] to better
verify the soundness of its data center policies.
ACS first began a relationship with Sun in 1990, when the company began
deploying dedicated Sun Enterprise[TM] servers to specific customers for
electronic commerce. Sun's solutions were able to offer ACS unique
advantages at that time, and the overall Sun experience led to ACS'
planning of further enhanced midrange alternatives.
After careful testing and planning with Sun, ACS deployed Sun Fire[TM]
15K servers at one location, each connected with Sun StorEdge[TM] 9960
systems for data storage. At another U.S. location, the company
installed Sun Fire[TM] 6800 servers, Sun Fire[TM] V880 servers and Sun
Fire[TM] 280R servers. A Sun Fire 15K server was also deployed in ACS'
Ireland data center. All servers are protected by Sun Services under a
SunSpectrum Platinum[SM] support agreement.
The results of the deployment were significant, "Our Sun server-based
revenues in the IT Solutions Group have grown from practically nothing
two years ago to $10 million today, and it's increasing really fast,
1,000 percent just in the last year," said Alex Baker, director of
business strategy for the IT Solutions Group of ACS.
