Bug Fixes, Support for 64-bit Intel Itanium 2 Processors
The Java[TM] 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE[TM]) 1.4.2 beta is now
available. New features include custom install options for Web-based
installer, Windows Web-based installation, supported system configurations
and bug fixes.
The J2SE platform 1.4.2 beta is the second maintenance release to J2SE
1.4.0. It contains over 2100 bug fixes. Version 1.4.2 Beta advances rich
client application development, builds on Java[TM] technology's
cross-platform support and robust security model with new features and
functionality, enhanced performance and scalability and improved
reliability and serviceability.
Other new features in the J2SE platform 1.4.2 beta include:
- 64-bit Intel Itanium 2 processors: With the J2SE 1.4.2 beta, Itanium 2
IA-64 processors are now fully supported. A new server JIT compiler is
- Java Plug-in API: The Active X Bridge has been reimplemented in this
release. A single Java Plug-in Control Panel now handles all versions of
installed Java Plug-in APIs.
- Java Web Start 1.4.2: Enhancements (RFEs) implemented in this release
include: JAWS automatically detects all "registered" Java[TM] runtime
environments (JREs) on the computer every time JAWS is run.
