Vol 64 Issue 4 2003-06-23  Article 10211 from section "Oracle"

Sun is expanding its 20-year strategic alliance to include support for
Oracle products on Sun's full line of Solaris[TM] Operating System
(Solaris OS) (SPARC[R] Platform Edition), Solaris OS (x86 Platform
Edition) and Linux systems. The alliance is intended to bring lower
acquisition costs, greater simplicity and manageability.

The new alliance involves several components:

           - Sun and Oracle plan to introduce a global consolidation program in
the upcoming year that will take advantage of how their joint
platforms provide leadership in availability, utilization and
             manageability.

           - Oracle's software running on UNIX[R] systems, Solaris OS (SPARC
Platform Edition), Solaris OS (x86 Platform Edition) and Linux on
x86 is aimed at bringing reliability and scalability to low-cost
             servers running mission-critical applications.

           - Sun and Oracle plan to work together to enable automated deployment
of Oracle and its resources in an N1-enabled data center.

           - Sun and Oracle plan to bring low-cost computing to collaboration
through Oracle Collaboration Suite and Sun's StarOffice[TM]
             software.

           - Sun and Oracle will run an "Oracle Makes Sun Unbreakable" joint
marketing program that stresses the availability and reliability of
Oracle products on Sun servers. Sun and Oracle plan to simplify
access to technology and support for developers by sharing
information and services across the new Sun Web site, The Source
for Developers and Oracle's developer portal, the Oracle Technology
Network. See the Web version of this article for the URLs.

With this collaboration, Sun and Oracle plan to bring strong performance
        to low-cost, commodity-based computing by introducing standards-based
clustered servers as a choice for building data centers.

The Webcast of Scott McNealy, Chairman, President and CEO, Sun; Larry
Ellison, Chairman and CEO, Oracle Corp.; and other industry partners is
available online. The Webcast presents the announcements of how Sun and
Oracle bring uncompromising choice, innovation and value to low cost computing.
