     Technical Details

        The Sun Fire[TM] V60x server and Sun Fire[TM] V65x server are Sun's
        next-generation, x86-based, entry-level servers. These second-generation
servers contain 1 or 2, 2.8 GHz or 3.06 GHz Intel Xeon processors (note:
the 3.06 GHz processor is available only for the Sun Fire V65x server),
and support up to 6 hard disks and 12 GB of memory (Sun Fire V65x
server) or 3 hard disks and 6 GB of memory (Sun Fire V60x server). There
is a version of the standard Linux kernels known as "bigmem kernels"
that have been tested by Sun that can utilize the 6 or 12 GB.

These servers support the Solaris[TM] 9 Operating System (Solaris OS),
update 4 (x86 Platform Edition). The servers are designed for Tier 0, 1
and 2 applications. They have undergone additional testing by Sun.

The Sun Fire V60x server and Sun Fire V65x server are available through
the Sun[SM] Customer Ready Systems (CRS) program.

Sun provides a media kit (CDs and driver floppy) that enables Linux
users to install and deploy Standard Linux Distributions using drivers
and updates specific to the Sun Fire V60x server and Sun Fire V65x
        server.

1. SN#9859 Repricing: Sun Fire[TM] V480 Servers and Sun Fire[TM] V880 Servers

SYSTEM NEWS FOR SUN USERS
Vol 63 Issue 2 2003-05-12  Article 9859 from section "Servers"

     Get Better Price/Performance

The Sun Fire[TM] V480 and Sun Fire[TM] V880 servers are being repriced to
offer even better price performance. Both of these Sun Fire servers offer
high performance with the UltraSPARC[R] III processor.

The balanced integrated architecture of the Sun Fire V480 server provides
excellent CPU scalability, I/O performance and large memory capacities,
which helps to increase productivity and customer satisfaction.

The Sun Fire V880 server requires a minimum configuration of two processors
and 4 GB of memory, and requires the Solaris[TM] 8 10/01 Operating System
(Solaris OS), or later. Although it is possible to boot from an external
storage array via the network or locally connected storage, at least one
FC-AL backup boot disk is highly recommended.

These servers are well suited for applications such as database, ERP and
messaging in sectors of financial services, service providers,
     manufacturing, government, healthcare and educational/research
     institutions.

The Sun Fire V480 servers and Sun Fire V880 servers are supported with both
Solaris 8 OS and Solaris 9 OS.
