     Overviews and Advanced Tips

"Bluetooth for Java[TM]" by Bruce Hopkins, Ranjith Antony

This book covers information on developing wireless Java[TM] technology
applications using Bluetooth for a variety of platforms. Chapters cover
Bluetooth with the Java[TM] 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME[TM]), with
Jini[TM] technology, Java technology and OBEX, security, wireless embedded
systems with the Micro BlueTarget and development on the PalmOS.

While the book is not an overview of Bluetooth in general, it provides an
introductory chapter on Bluetooth, a technology for wireless communication.

"Logging in Java with the JDK[TM] 1.4 Logging API and Apache log4j" by Samudra
     Gupta

This book covers the Java[TM] Development Kit (JDK) 1.4.0 logging API and
Apache log4j 1.2.6 logging API for application developers. The internals of
each API are examined, contrasted and compared.

Each concept explained is accompanied by code example written in the
Java[TM] programming language. Source code is available online. The book
also provides guidelines for extending the existing logging frameworks to
     cater to application-specific needs.

A sample chapter is available online: "Understanding Apache log4j." Other
chapters in the book include an introduction to application logging,
formatting JDK 1.4 logging information and advanced logging with log4j.
Source code is available on the publisher's Web site.

The Java[TM] Technology Workbook collection of resources covers all the
topics needed to learn the Java programming language. The best way to learn
is by doing. The Workbook contains exercises that are designed so you can
practice and learn the Java programming language at an entry or
     intermediate level.

Exercises
     - Data Structures: These exercises include data typing, working with
numbers and Strings, casting and more.
     - Flow Control
     - Java I/O
     - GUI (AWT & Java[TM] Foundation Classes/Swing API)
     - Applets
     - Error Handling

The "Getting Started" segment of the Java Technology Workbook contains
links to articles that cover the basics of the Java platform.

The "Step-by-Step Programming" segment provides two options for you to get
the information you want: Scan the list of articles on Java technology,
such as Dana Nourie's series on building an application, or check off which
topics you want to learn about and create customized tutorials.

You can also get a customized learning path. The references and resources
list contains links to newsletters and more.
