Yamaha 540 to Dell XP with Midi cable--Then what?

Post by Joan » Thu, 05 Dec 2002 02:01:13

I have a Yamaha PSR 540 keyboard and a Dell 4300 with XP. I want to connect
my keyboard to my computer and be able to use Home Concert with sound coming
from my Yammie. I connected the In/Out midi cable to my keyboard and the
other end to the ISB port. My XP saw the device but didn't have the proper
program to use it.

What do I need to get for software?

Oleg,

I didn't try to install the drivers. I think I have the drivers in Sound
Blaster Live. I was able to get my keyboard to play and be recognized by the
program "Power Tracks". My next challenge is to get the music that's on
Power Tracks to come out of my keyboard. Is that going to be possible?

1. A question about Yamaha PSR-540 and PSR-340

Hello,
I've recently decided to get a keyboard to start improving my
playing skills. After shopping around and reading very useful reviews
on this and other newsgroups I am now almost sure I will buy a Yamaha
PSR-540.

   Unfortunately I couldn't find a place where I can hear both PSR-540
and PSR-340. The only concern I have is that PSR-340 has a "Portable
Grand" button that apparently prepares all the settings for a good
grand piano sound. Now my question is : is PSR-540 able to generate
piano sound with at least the same quality as PSR-340 by adjusting the
appropriate settings or "Portable Grand" is a "real" feature that is
something more than just setting adjustment, e.g. more wave ROM?

I also couldn't try PSR-540 and PSRGX76 at the same place. Since I
still can't hear the subtle differences in the sounds, I had trouble
comparing their piano sounds. Does anybody have any experience about
comparing the voice quality (esp. grand piano) of these two keyboards?

Thanks a lot for your time.
