NW 4.1 to NW 4.11

NW 4.1 to NW 4.11

Hi,

I'm running NW 4.1 on a server and I need to upgrade it to NW 4.11.
When I launch the install utility and start the upgrade procedure it
tells me it has detected a 10Mb DOS partition on the server (this is
small but I coming from NW3.12) and need about 4 more Mb to go further.
know that it is suggested to have at least a 15 Mb partition for NW411
but it was already the case with NW4.1.
Does someone know if the only way I'll be able to migrate my server will
be to format my disk to get a bigger DOS partition or if I can ignore the
warning?

TIA

Olivier

The 4.11 install copies a _lot_ more drivers to the DOS partition than did
the 4.1 install. I just had a look at the C:\NWSERVER dir on one of my 4.11
servers, and it contains 12.5Mb of files, so I think you will find that
10Mb will be too small...

Ran into this same problem when I upgraded my 4.1 server to 4.11. Yes,
you will need a larger DOS partition. Novell 4.11 requires a minimum
of 11.7M of free disk space for its files. By the time you add DOS, or
at least a minimum install of DOS, you have hit the 15M mark.

One thing I found surprising was that when NW 4.11 installs, it loads
every lan and disk driver known to Novell onto the DOS partition.
Later in the process it loads them all again onto the SYS volume. If
the INSTALL program only loaded onto the DOS partiton the required lan
and disk drivers for the particular server, you could probably get
away with a much smaller DOS partiton.

For more information regarding upgrading, and the server requirements,
check out the README files on the Netware 4.11 Operating System CD.
You will find the above bit of information regarding the minimum DOS
space requirement in the file \PRODUCTS\README\ENGLISH\README.411.

Good Luck!!
