Exchange Client not used by MS Office apps on NT4

Post by Steve Bloc » Tue, 21 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Some Microsoft applications, like Word and Internet Explorer, are using the
Windows Messaging compose mail window instead of the Exchange Client
compose mail window (exchng32.exe).

The IE3 Options menu, Programs tab, Mail setting lists Internet Mail and
Windows Messaging as the only choices.

Some other applications (Netscape, etc.) use the correct Exchange client
compose mail window.

Does anybody know of a relevant NT registry setting, or have any other
suggestions?

The client is running NT 4.0 workstation.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Umm, news flash. Microsoft decided to change the Exchange
client name to Windows Messaging! Same thing, different
name. God knows why!

I hope this helps :-)

Thanks Karl, but...

What I mean is...

The Exchange client compose mail window (with features like spell check,
signature lines, etc.) is not being used all the time. The Windows
Messaging client compose mail window has a limited feature set, and looks a
little different. Some apps use the correct Exchange client window, but
Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer use the wrong Windows Messaging
window.

I really need some help here, anybody???

Thanks

It is a little confusing.  First there was Exchange, which was replaced by
Messaging.  These are far machines not operating on a network, but rather
as stand alone.  If you are operating on a network with Exchange Server,
you use Exchange Client.

These can be downloaded from the MS Internet site and the latest versions
are recommended.  Exchange Client even has Schedule+ built into it.  This
allows group scheduling on the network.

IE 3.0 does show the Windows Messaging on the window, but if the machine has
Exchange on it, it will go there anyway.  There is nothing wrong with
Internet Mail fi you are not on a network.  I actually like it better.

Now for the finale.  Outlook, that comes with Office 97 replaces all these
and is a great looking product from what I have seen.  It all moves too
fast for all of us, but the option of falling behind is not good either.
