Echange Server 5.0: Problem with sending mail to the Internet

Post by Dan Sovre » Wed, 30 Apr 1997 04:00:00

Hello !
I have Windows NT 4.0 server, SP2 installed and Exchange Server 5.0 trial
version.
My ISP has a lynux system.
I can receive mail from the world, I can send mail locally, but if I try to
send mail
to anyone on the Internet (outside me), the message will put in the queue
of the Internet Mail
Service and will not be delivered or the mail return with an error like
this :
" network error", "too many hops", "unknown host". I wrote this messages
because I try
everything, but no success.
Yes, I have an A record in my DNS that points to my exchange server,
an MX record that points to exchange server and the web browser work well.
My network is OK.
What can I do?

Thanks.

Echange Server 5.0: Problem with sending mail to the Internet

Dan,
Should be no problem getting Exchange to talk to a LINUX server for
send.

Just make sure that on the SMTP connector you have set it to send
all mail to your ISP's SMTP host and not via the DNS.

You don't say if you are going dial-up or permanent connection.
If its dial up that can also cause problems.
  Dave.
