Service Packs

Want to install SP2 and SP3 for Exchange.  SP3 requires that SP2 is
installed first.  There are client updates on both SP's.  Does this mean
we must do the following:

1. Install SP2 on the server
2. Go to EVERY workstation and run SP2 client update
3. Install SP3 on the server
4. Go to EVERY workstation and run SP3 client update

There must be an AUTOMATIC CLIENT UPDATE or something of the sort.
Please shed some light.  There's got to be an easier way - this is
Microsoft!

Service Packs are not required for the clients, though they are
recommended. There is an easier way, but it requires running SMS.  I think
there is an automatic way, but it's been many months since I ran across it
and don't remember the details.

How's your server running these days?

From what I understand the SP3 client update includes changes from the SP2
update. So the client SP3 only needs to be applied to the clients not SP2
then SP3.

1. To Service Pack or not to Service Pack

I run both successfully.

NT 4.0 SP2 is a little tricky, but runs fine.  If you run any virus protection software on the server you will want to get the Post
SP2 Kernel hotfix from the FTP site ftp://ftp.microsoft.com.

There have been several users who had problems installing NT 4.0 SP2.  Without much correlation, installing from the CD has been
safer than installing from a network share.  Installing from a system already at SP1 has been safer than installing to raw NT 4.0.
Our local record is 7-2 in favor of no problems.

Exchange SP3 has been much easier.  It does require Exchange SP2 though.

regards
Andy
