Exchange server tries to re-direct X.400 messages, fails and sends back an NDR

Hi,

I've got a small problem with messages coming into my Exchange Server over
the X.400 connector from a foreign MTA. Every so often a message comes into
the Exchange server destined for a local mailbox. Exchnage server gets
confused and sends back an NDR. when I re-send the message it goes through
without a problem. In the event log it shows event 290 and 210. It only
seems to happen with messages coming into the Exchange Server over the X.400
connector.

Event 290
A non-delivery report (reason code unable-to-transfer and diagnostic code
maximum-time-expired) is being generated for message C=US;A=
;P=Organization;
L=Server03-970224213600Z-1460. It was originally destined for
DN:/o=organization/ou=sitename/cn=recipients/cn=recipientnameC=US;A= ;
P=organization;O=sitename;S=user;G=joe; (recipient number 1); and was to be
redirected to . [MTA DISP:RESULT 20 136] (12)

Event 210
message NMI0210: X.400 Service Event, severity 14      (MTA XFER-IN(26) Proc
112) 04-28-97 01:48:11am      Content conversion failed         Object at
fault
   0600004D         Conversion error    26   MTS Identifier
C=UA;A=ADMD;P=PRMD;L=1002233servername         Old content type    56010A00
   New content type    2A864886F7140501         PDU dump reference  1

I've been through MSDN and Technet. There is a bit of info about these
errors but nothing that has resolved my problem. MICROSOFT premier support
have drawn a blank.

I've got NT SP6, Exchange SP3. I've also got Jounaling turned on and all
messages make it into the message journal.

I've turned on logging, but ASPRIN cannot decode the BF0 files that
represent the dodgy messages.

The problem first cropped up after doing a disaster recovery.

Has anybody experienced similar problems?

1. NDR sending to 5.5 recipients connected by x.400

I've upgraded 2 servers in 5.5 site to E2K servers. I
have another 5.5 site connected to it with x.400 but
since the E2K upgrade in one site, I can no longer send
messages to 5.5 site over x.400 connector. The NDR
message I get is:

The e-mail account does not exist at the organization
this message was sent to.  Check the e-mail address, or
contact the recipient directly to find out the correct
address.
    <[myserver.mydomain.com #5.1.1>

Initially I installed a new E2K server to my 5.5 site and
created a new x.400 on E2K pointing to the other 5.5
site. I next did an inplace upgrade of 2nd 5.5 server
which upgraded the initial x.400 that worked fine when
both sites were 5.5 Can someone tell me where I'm
overlooking a step to get email flowing from E2K site to
EX55 site over x.400 connector? thanks.
