HELP with ARCserveIT 6.61: won't VERIFY my backup and it won't RESTORE my mailboxes

Post by Gigi Lu » Fri, 17 Dec 1999 04:00:00

Hi there;

1. Using ARCserveIT 6.61 with Exchange 5.5. The backup works (the job backs
up two partitions from other servers and then the Exchange IS, directory and
bricks). The "options" are set to "Compare backup media to disk". The
verification is done for the other servers but is skipped for the Exchange
backups (as shown in the job log - no verify for any of the Exchange
sessions).
Does anybody know why?

2. Tried to restore a mailbox - backed it up, deleted it in the Exchange
Admin, and then tried to restore it. I get:
E8605 - Failed to start restore .. -- (354) "Failed to find object
information".

Looked for tech support at CA Web site - none relevant. Emailed CA - no
response.
Help please?

Thanks
Gigi

HELP with ARCserveIT 6.61: won't VERIFY my backup and it won't RESTORE my mailboxes

I have no experience with Arcserve--others have scared me away!

However, even if you can get single mailbox recovery to work, you end up
with mailboxes that are hardly in the same condition as before.
Fortunately, you need not ever use this kludgey feature.  Read up here:
http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq_appxb.htm for more information.

I think this is becasue the Exchange agent takes care of this for you.  I
usually just check to see if the transaction logs are gone after a full
backup.  Since I have circular logging disabled, the transaction logs are
deleted only after they are committed when the full backup occurs.  I have
restored with these backups and it all works fine.

Bricks level is a bit tricky.  Try re-creating the mailbox first and then do
the bricks restore.
