Internet News Service - Outbound error

Post by Neil Myer » Thu, 10 Aug 2000 04:00:00

Hi!

I have set up INS on our Exchange 5.5 server. Up until last week everything
was fine - incoming messages were being pulled, outgoing messages were being
sent. Now outgoing messages are not being sent. No settings have been
changed. The Event Viewer reports: "Failed to establish outbound connection
to <NEWS SERVER>. News will be resent later.".

Could somebody please shed some light on the problem? How can I monitor
outbound news messages (like the "Queue" in IMS)?

Thanks

Neil

Can you successfully establish connection with NEWS SERVER by running (at
server's command prompt)
telnet NEWS SERVER 119

Kirill,

I get no response from the news server when Telnet'ing from the servers
command prompt. I have tried it from my workstation though and got a reply
(so it's working through the Proxy Server). Any ideas?

Regards

Neil

Packet Filtering was blocking the request. I've just (temporarily) disabled
PF on Proxy and tried the Telnet command again with success. What now?

1. Inbound news feed not coming in, Internet News Service

Exchange 5.5 sp4, Windows NT Server 4.0 Sp6a.

I have  had been getting news from my ISP absolutely fine, but since
last week, I had a problem of messages not coming inbound. Like I am not
able to recieve the newsfeeds. I have checked the following.

1. In the news feed properties, "inbound" has all the newsgroups which I
want to receive.
2. I have anonymous access allowed, and I have only one site, so in
configurations of server, I have selected "use site properties"
3. In my firebox connections monitor I do see traffic from my ISP coming
in on port 119. Its getting through but still I did not see messages (I
was absolutely okay before a week with my inbound feed).
4. I checked my Exchange Training  Guide, and enabled detailed logging
with messages. I am attaching a portion of the log. I am not sure why it
is not recognizing "ihave" command, which it should be, with my version
of Exchange (5.5 sp4).
